You are invited to a scheduled Zoom meeting for the Sophisticated Gents Book Club - Dec 16, 2021 03:00 PM Eastern Time
You are invited to a discussion of a controversial set of ideas in a book by John McWhorter. Is "Woke" a way to counter White Supremacy, or should black people just get their own act together, and what is "Critical Race Theory" about?

We will discuss --
Not everyone may agree with what McWhorter has to say.
The author is a black man who writes about racial tension, and he says that anti-racism rhetoric (used by black people and by others) is causing harm for ourselves. What makes his work especially sensitive is that he describes the anti-racism as a type of "religion" that has become a widely accepted rhetoric without enough challenge by black people. Note: I define anti-racism rhetoric as using word-phrases like "Woke" and "Defund the Police" and "White Privilege" as rhetoric.
