The Sophisticated Gents of Florida (SGOF) and The African American Club of The Villages (TAAC) held the Sixth Annual Scholarship Award Luncheon on June 1st at the La Hacienda Recreation Center. The annual celebratory event is a culmination of scholarship committee volunteers going to area high schools to recruit, mentor, advise, and select deserving seniors. Scholarship money is raised from the annual Friendship Golf Tournament, individual donors, and Corporate Sponsors. A total $31,000 was awarded to 21 deserving students. Graduating students from the class of 2020 - 2021 class received a renewal scholarship award of $10,000. As noted elsewhere, the majority of the funding for this initiative is derived from individual/corporate donations and from net proceeds of the annual Friendship Golf Tournament Fundraiser, the latter held in the Fall. Please see our Donations page or the Friendship Golf Tournament pages for additional information and to contribute financially to this initiative. Your donations are tax-deductible. Thank you! |
To promote continuing education we offer a scholarship of $1000.00-$3,000.00 to a high school senior from the surrounding Lake, Sumter and Marion county communities. The money is paid directly to the student. The process includes completing an application and a short essay about the student's career aspirations.
To apply for one of our Scholarships, students must submit a completed application. Additionally, applicants must meet or exceed the following criteria.
